Wikipad delayed for last-minute tweaks

The gaming-focused Android tablet misses Oct 31st ship date due to “minor refinement.”

A Wikipad representative came by  New York office in September for a hands-on with its Android-powered gaming tablet. The Wikipad left us with a generally positive impression, even if its $500 price tag seemed high. But although the device seemed relatively polished barely a month ago, Wikipad, Inc. announced a delay for its eponymous tablet yesterday. It was supposed to hit stores on October 31st.

The company cited “a last minute opportunity to enhance the Wikipad bundle as well as a minor refinement needed to ensure our first customers are completely satisfied with the Wikipad” in a press release. Whether those adjustments are hardware or software related is unclear, but that they are serious enough to delay shipping at the last minute suggest problems beyond the scope of a straightforward software update.

Wikipad has not announced a new shipping date for its tablet, and Digital Trends reports that GameSpot is no longer accepting Wikipad pre-orders. The company says it will include a bonus gift for existing Wikipad pre-order customers, and that it will announced a new ship date “soon.”
