Retailers clearing 16GB Nexus 7 stock for 32GB model?

Some retailers in the U.K. have discounted the 16GB Nexus 7 tablet, making some wonder if the long-rumored 32GB model is coming.

Google’s Nexus 7 line might soon have a new entrant.

According to reports out of the U.K., some retailers are cutting the price of the 16GB Nexus 7 tabletAndroid Authority, which earlier reported on the pricing, found a handful of retailers who have cut the price. One retailer, named Comet, is currently offering the tablet for 179.99 pounds, down from its initial price of 199 pounds.

GadgetNuz checked several retail sites in the U.S., but found that the 16GB Nexus 7 was still being offered for $249.

Still, the U.K. retailers’ drop in price has prompted increased speculation that Google will soon unveil a 32GB Nexus 7. Over the last few weeks, we’ve been hearing rumblings of Google considering replacing its 16GB model with a 32GB version. That rumor was aided by Staples Advantage, a retail site for business users, that briefly listed a 32GB Nexus 7 for $248.37.

Google has not confirmed that it will launch a 32GB Nexus 7. However, earlier this week,Apple announced an iPad Mini that is competing directly with the search giant’s tablet. Apple’s slate comes in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB flavors. The Nexus 7, with only 8GB and 16GB, looks rather slim on storage, in comparison.

That said, Google is winning on pricing. The $249 Nexus 7 is $80 cheaper than the starting iPad Mini price of $329. If Google delivers a 32GB Nexus 7 for the $249 price, it would put Google even further ahead on price.

Apple’s iPad Mini launches on November 2.
