Acer Aspire V5-571P-6642

Along with its new Aspire M5 Windows 8 ultrabooks, Acer also announced the V5 series fleet of non-ultra Windows 8 laptops. Available in 11.6, 14, and 15.6-inch displays, the Aspire V5 171, 471, and 571, respectively, will debuted in the U.S. and Canada alongside the M5s and Windows 8 itself on October 26th.

Pricing and availability of the units will vary by country. Acer says a touchscreen-enabled V5-471P will start in the U.S. for $749.99, joined by the Aspire V5-571 beginning at $749 in the U.S., and for $699 in Canada. Acer lists the V5-471P at a robust 4.63 pounds, and the larger V5-571P at five pounds even. You can expect to find all kinds of price and configuration options depending on the retailer and the country.

Acer promises third-generation Intel Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 CPUs across the V5 line.

The company also outlines that the 14 and 15-inch models will have slim DVD burner drives, and mechanical hard drives starting at 500GB. It does not mention an SSD option for the V5s like you get in the Aspire M5 ultrabooks. But like the M5s, the V5s also rely on embedded Intel HD Graphics 4000 3D processors across the V5 laptops, which means they’re only suited to PC gaming at lower image quality settings.

Other specs in the V5 systems, however unremarkable, include a single USB 3.0 jack, an HDMI output, a 1.3MP Webcam, and Bluetooth 4.0-plus connectivity. For those customers who might feel put-off by Windows 8’s new interface, at least these V5 laptops will offer a familiar-feeling hardware on which to use Microsoft’s new operating system.
